Summary:

We are seeking a driven, detail-oriented Assistant Controller to play a meaningful role in a growing, privately owned retail and manufacturing organization serving both B2B and B2C customers.

This is a highly visible opportunity to partner closely with leadership, influence financial operations, and contribute to process improvements in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The ideal candidate thrives on ownership, enjoys variety, and is motivated to work beyond routine accounting tasks.

Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Close Process

  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
  • Drive month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Oversee general ledger accuracy across multiple revenue streams

Inventory & Cost Accounting

  • Monitor and reconcile inventory-related accounts (COGS, adjustments, reserves, shrink)
  • Support manufacturing and average cost accounting
  • Validate inventory costing accuracy
  • Incorporate landed costs (freight, duties, acquisition costs)
  • Analyze cost movements and margin impacts
  • Assist with cost updates
  • Partner with operations to provide profitability insights

Compliance & Controls

  • Ensure proper revenue recognition across multiple sales channels
  • Maintain compliance with GAAP, sales tax regulations, and internal accounting policies
  • Experience with Avalara is a plus
  • Strengthen internal controls and accounting processes

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Support cash flow management and working capital optimization

Leadership & Systems

  • Mentor and support accounting staff
  • Participate in ERP/system enhancements and process improvements (NetSuite experience highly desirable)
  • Contribute to special projects and operational initiatives
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
  • 5–7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including support or leadership of accounting operations
  • Experience in retail, manufacturing, or distribution environments preferred
  • Strong inventory and costing knowledge (average cost methodology required)
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards
  • Experience working with ERP and operational systems (NetSuite highly desirable)
  • Advanced Excel skills required
  • Leadership or supervisory experience preferred
Employment Information:
Compensation:  $100 - $150k/year DOE
